故事发生在1962年，魔游麦克法兰（维果·莫特森 Viggo Mortensen 饰）和柯莱特（克尔斯滕·邓斯特 Kirsten Dunst 饰）是一对艺术家夫妇，魔游两人前往风景如画的希腊游玩。在古希腊卫城，夫妇两人遇见了名为吕达尔（奥斯卡·伊萨克 Oscar Isaac 饰）的陌生男子，他是当地的导游，靠着小偷小摸和骗吃骗喝过活。麦克法兰和柯莱特的与众不同吸引了吕达尔的注意，三人结伴共进了晚餐。之后，夫妻两邀请吕达尔前往他们所住的酒店参观。就在这时，麦克法兰提出了一个让吕达尔感到十分疑惑的要求——帮助他搬运一具尸体，然而，柯莱特用甜言蜜语打消了吕达尔的疑虑，并且提出三人一同前往土耳其游玩。
