空军中校约翰·伯顿被指派评估布拉德利步兵战车样品车的效用，华丽这是一种陆军运兵车／侦察车，华丽在其最后的重新设计中，发现其实际上是使乘员置于致命陷阱隐患。伯顿一直试图对它进行适当的实弹装甲测试，但不断被他的临时指挥官，陆军少将帕特里奇阻挠，以便使它在企业中进行定型与生产。
