一架从迪拜飞往巴黎的班机，教季在阿尔卑斯山不幸坠毁。一位年轻又才华横溢的法国航空事故调查人员马修（皮耶尼内饰演），教季被指派为这起空难的首席调查员。这是驾驶失误？还是技术故障？或是恐怖攻击？当这起调查结案时，马修开始怀疑证据发生问题。当他再度聆听黑匣子的内容时，竟发现一些严重干扰的细节。黑盒子的磁带是否遭到修改？而他对真相的痴迷与追求，是否又会因为违背上级命令，让他的生命遭到威胁？
