1941年12月、玛格日本側の真珠湾攻撃によって幕を開けた太平洋戦争の始まりから80年。本作はのちの真珠湾攻撃を指揮する提督・山本五十六が国家の命運を背負い、玛格開戦前のロンドンで軍縮交渉に臨む姿を描いた実録ドラマだ。アメリカの絶大な国力を知り、戦争は避けるべきと考えた五十六。組織の中で板挟みになりながら、ぎりぎりまで決裂回避への道を探り続ける五十六の“ある決断”が描かれる。
