本片讲述导演自己的童年故事。一个9岁巴黎男孩因为母亲外出生孩子，爆炸在夏天被寄托到乡下一处友人家。这家夫妇虽然宠爱他，爆炸但各有怪癖，而且不停唠叨他们几年前去世的孩子。一个有男生性格的女孩使他从怪圈中逃脱出来，进而他也帮助那对夫妇克服丧子的痛楚。
