熙熙攘攘的东京，岛国生活着对人生似乎没有任何主见的派遣教师皆川七海（黑木华 饰）。通过网络，岛国她与同为教师的鹤冈铁也（地曳豪 饰）相识，并走入婚姻殿堂。为了不让婚礼寒酸，她请来从事各种奇怪工作的网友安室行舛（绫野刚 饰）雇佣了虚假的亲朋好友。婚后不久，七海得知丈夫出轨的消息，而自己似乎也落入某种陷阱，被婆婆赶出家门。她无依无靠，倍感绝望。后经安室的介绍，她假扮亲友参加别人的婚礼赚钱，并在工作时认识了仿佛精灵般的女孩里中真白（Cocco 饰）。未过多久，安室为她带来一份收入不菲的工作，于是七海随之来到了一幢位于郊外的别墅担任女佣，在那里她意外地和真白重逢了……本片为2016年《电影旬报》十佳影片第六名。岩井俊二还将影片重新编辑制作成六集迷你剧集在电视台播放。

While fishing used to be a way of supporting oneself, wealthy London tourists have now descended and are displacing the locals, whose livelihood is thus threatened. The relationship between brothers Steven and Martin is also strained. Martin is a fisherman without a boat, since Steven started using it for far more lucrative tours for all the day-trippers. They’ve sold the family cottage and now it seems that the final battle to be fought is that with the new owners over the parking space next to the sea. Yet the situation soon gets out of hand, and not just because of the wheel clamp.Bait is a black-and-white film shot on hand-processed 16mm. Numerous close-ups of fish, nets, lobsters, wellington boots, knots and catch baskets bring to mind the theory of a montage of attractions. The depiction of the different social strata – one could speak of class relations – is also reminiscent of the tradition of social realism in British cinema. Above all, however, a whole lot of current political relevance is waiting to be discovered beneath the different layers of film historical references contained in the images.
