剧情是关於孤儿 Pete 结识了忽隐忽现的妙妙龙 Elliott ，得到妙妙龙的暗助他才逃离奴役的命运，后来他被灯塔看守员的女儿 Nora 收养，而 Nora 的男友在此之前却已经航海失去了音讯，Nora 每天由灯塔遥望著大海，期待会有奇迹出现… Pete 与妙妙龙的友情、Nora 与其男友的爱情，以及 Nora 对 Pete 的怜悯关怀之情，交织成这一部温馨感人的歌舞电影。本片是一部真人与动画合演的电影，动画部分就是那只妙妙龙 Elliott 而已，比较以往迪士尼的真人动画杰作，如【南方之歌】、【悠情伴我心】、【欢乐满人间】以及【飞天万能床】等，动画真人合演的部分都只有一小段而已，但在本片当中，妙妙龙与演员常常同时出现，尤其是 Pete 还常坐在它的肚子上与它嬉闹、诉说心事，真人、动画配合的技巧更上一层楼!
