The film starts with verse 67, “O somma luce…” and continues to the end. “O Somma luce” recalls the first words uttered by Empedocles in Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub’s 1987 The Death of Empedocles—“O himmlisch Licht!…” (O heavenly light!). This extract from Hölderlin’s text is also inserted into their 1989 film Cézanne.“O somma luce” invokes utopia, or better still “u-topos,” Dante, Holderlin, Cézanne… the camera movement, recalling Sisyphus, in the film’s long shots, suggests its difficulty.In O somma luce, with Giorgio Passerone’s Dante and the verse that concluded the Divine Comedy, we find at the extremity of its possibilities, the almost happy speech of a man who has just left earthly paradise, who tries to fully realize the potential of his nature. 回复 :一个不知生父母为何人的年青人回到出生的小镇探寻自己身世,于是从往昔邻居妇人的口中得知了一段尘封已久的故事:独居二楼的小伙子透过破旧地板上的小洞偷窥到楼下一位美丽性感的少妇经常独守空房,而她作保安的丈夫偶尔回家,也只是把她当作泄欲工具。一天,小伙子无意拣到楼下房门的钥匙,于是他便趁夜潜入少妇房中,模仿她的丈夫与她发生关系。有了第一次后,小伙子不能按捺自己的冲动,又一次偷偷溜到楼下,然而这一次却被少妇发现,但是少妇被小伙子的真情打动,两个人自此便开始经常幽会。最终,他们的奸情被当保安的丈夫察觉,一天夜里当他们正在床上温存之时,少妇的丈夫意外回家,枪杀小伙子然后自杀,已怀有身孕的少妇在生下一名男婴之后也消失在远处的铁轨之间……
