大型直播真人秀节目《回家的路》遭遇前所未有的危机，国产收视持续下滑，国产赞助商广告商纷纷撤走，台领导不断施压，女主播田聪（范冰冰 饰）即使具有超好的职业素质还是举步维艰。就在直播进入倒计时的，参加节目的几个小朋友却都不能来。为了节目能够正常运行，田聪突然想起自己儿子路笑。田聪五年前和前夫路远方（杜汶泽 饰）离婚，儿子一直由前夫扶养。当田聪向前夫提出这个要求时遭到拒绝，于是她趁着路远方赶去相亲的时候跑到商城接走儿子。古灵精怪的路笑在心不在焉的路远方遥控指挥下，在直播节目里频出怪招，结果却意外的让节目收视直线上升。路笑的不配合让节目又一次陷入危机，此时路远方跑来电视台找儿子，在电视节目的直播过程中，这家人的过往的渐渐浮现在观众面前……
